Kuroshima Island Lookout 黒島

This spot looks out over Kuroshima Island on the east coast of the island and was created from an eruption of basaltic lava in eastern coastal area of Dōgo Island.

It is composed of columnar joints which formed when the lava cooled and formed vertical fractures. The lookout is located right beside the road. You can further enjoy the scenery here by walking a short trail leading down to the coast.

On the beach before this lookout (Kuboro Beach) in Oku Village you can see rocks washed up from this island that contain mantle xenoliths.

Important Information
There are no shops or restaurants nearby, so make sure you take food and drink with you. Not accessible by bus.
