Chōshi Dam, Oki Gneiss 銚子ダム・隠岐片麻岩

Chōshi Dam is a picturesque location with a wide park area and a walking trail.

In summer, it is a popular location to see fireflies.

The cliffs that surround Chōshi Dam are composed of Oki Gneiss, the oldest rock of the Oki Islands. This metamorphic rock was formed at high temperature and pressure underground 250 million years ago on the continent. It records the geological history of the Japanese Archipelago. You can see it up close at the geosite.
