At 325m above sea level, Mt. Akahage is the highest point on Chiburijima Island. The lookout at the peak of the mountain offers a stunning 360-degree view of the Dōzen Caldera, Dōgo Island, as well as Mt. Daisen on the distant the Shimane Peninsula. Old stone walls along the mountain side create a quaint and picturesque view. These walls are the remains of walls used to delineate makihata fields. Makihata is a unique rotation farming method that was practiced in the Oki Islands until the mid-20th century.
